Ham & Cheese Sandwiches, half a hard-boiled egg for bus snack, berries, snake jelly for sharing with friends.
Personally, I’m happy with this. Loves the colors. Something I didn’t copy from anyone :P, but got the inspiration from my daughter’s My Melody lunchbox. 🙂
No bento for him since he is off for school camp.
And, treat for my reader 🙂 Instruction for this bento!!! 🙂 😉
And here’s the instructions 🙂
Melody face : Ham, Kamaboko, Cheese (Darker tone type), Nori
Spaghetti – Use the thin type. To poke through the sandwich to keep the face and everything in place.
Tomato sauce – act as ‘glue’ to keep the eyes and mouths in place
The good news is, you need not buy any expensive My Melody cutters 😉 😀 A generic rabbit cutter is good enough to do the job.
Closer look at the cutters. I used the one in orange that I purchased online. It came with 3 other cutters. A little pricey though.
Alternative is the silver one from Daiso. Yup, you should know Daiso’s price 😉
Green cutter – for the ribbons
Yellow cutter – the mouth (smaller, also came in a set with something else, also pricey)
Orange cutter – From Daiso, alternative. I use the eye from the orange cutter.
Cut the whole head shape from the ham and the Kamaboko.
For the more pinkish faces, I used the Kamaboko. I separated the pink part from the white portion.
Use the other end of the cutter, cut out part of the face so as to make the white portion of Melody’s face. And the upper portion will be the hat.
Here you go. Hmmm, what to do with the over shape? Up to you. It’s part of my sandwich, and most of the time, I eat them up. Or, keep them for future Bento work.
And using the same cutter, I cut the ham, cheese and bread.
Just layer the face on top, add the facial expressions, use the spaghetti to poke through the Melody’s hat, through the sandwiches.
I poke it at where I wanted to put the ribbon, so that the spaghetti can be nicely hidden 😛
Oh, don’t forget to use the tomato sauce as a glue when sticking the Nori to the bread. Normally if it’s on moist surface like hardboiled eggs, cheese, the Nori will stay. But since it was on the bread, which is dry, putting a bit of the tomato sauce will help.
I used the Rabbit egg mold for the hardboiled egg.
