Bento 210 Grimace Hello Kitty

Another bento where I got the inspiration from the current Singapore’s McDonald’s promotion.

This bento ain’t one for going to school or outing, it’s just my fingers itch from no bento making, so made this for my lunch.

I wonder how my kids have the heart to eat.  After completing, it took me another 2 hours to finally take my lunch. Simply  no heart to eat the effort.

Bento 208 Hello Kitty Hamburglar Bento

Don’t know to love or hate McDonald’s.  Everytime they come up with such Hello Kitty promotion, I will go crazy over collecting them all.

Anyway,  I nearly had to send my gal to school cause I was nearly not in time to finish this up!  The ribbon was the last, spells the lousy work.  Other than that, pretty happy with it 🙂

Inside croissant is nutella.  They go well!!! Yum!!!

Bento 206 Hello Kitty Bento

My sister-in-law helped me get a fantastic bento book by Akinoichigo from Japan that came complete with stencils and many instructions.  Totally love the book!  Today’s full bodied Hello Kitty made with the help from the book 🙂

Bento 196 Hello Kitty again :P

It’s exam week over here in Singapore.  1 May was Labour Day, but it meant nothing to tutors like me.  It’s the best day to have extra lessons.  Had full day session, top with revision with own children.  Life of a modern day mum 😦

Simple one here.  Shaped out of pancakes. 🙂  Scroll down for pancake’s recipe. 🙂  It’s yummy 😉

The cutter didn’t seem to work well on pancakes 😦

Hello Kitty Pancake

Hello Kitty Pancake

Pancake Recipe – Serves 4

Ingredients

Plain Flour – 1.5 cups

Baking Powder – 1 tspns

Salt – 1/2 tspn

Sugar – 1 tbsp

Milk – 1.5 cups

Medium egg – 1

Butter – 3 tbsp melted (I’m using SCS)

Method

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients together.
  2. Make a well in the center and pour the wet ingredients.
  3. Mix well till all the lumps are gone.  I find using whisk to mix gives great texture. (http://www.whisk.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Whisk1.jpg)
  4. Heat up non-stick pan till very hot.
  5. Lower fire to medium, pour in about a ladle full.
  6. Flip when batter starts to bubble.  (note, if pan is not hot enough, the first piece usually don’t give nice color.  But it’s still edible)
  7. Allow the other side to cook till brown. After a while, you will get a hang of the timing.

Happy cooking 🙂  The secret lies in the butter.  Use a good butter and your pancake will really be yuuuummmmm!!!!

Online Bento Sprees

Sometimes I think bento making is just an excuse for women to find more channels to satisfy our shopping need.  😛  Afterall, most bento-makers are probably in our 30s, and have probably seen enough for clothings, accessories, bags, and what have you.  Buying bento tools is a totally new ‘territory’ for we women (and some men).  And probably helps satisfy some childhood needs that wasn’t satisfied 😛

Hai ya, after one whole paragraph of talk talk talk, let’s get back to the theme in this post 😛  New bento tools!!!! puahhaha…. 😛

So what did I buy this time?

Barans and Picks!!!

I saw those lettuce from a fellow bento pal and totally love it!  My children don’t eat the lettuce that I used to put into the boxes.  😦  So laying my hands on this will certainly saves some bento running cost 😛

Stainless Steel Lunchbags

Those pretty and colorful lunchboxes are simply attractive. But but but…. as of now, most of them are not BPA-free :(.  Most BPA-free products like Lock and Locks are not very pretty at all. 😦

These stainless steel boxes that I found by accident in a local shops seem to satisfy both problems 😀  I subsequently found that online and started bringing them in myself 😉

Ain’t they cute?  Wanna guess which of is mine?

The answer is – Rilakkuma Stainless Steel Lunchboxes for my daughter  (thought I really like the Paul Frank box too.  Large enough for son.  Well, let’s see how long can I withstand the temptation.)

Bento 174 Pineapple Fried Rice Bento and Hello Kitty Bento

Hello Kitty Bento

Know what I love about doing all kinds of ‘tricks’ to bread?  Girl eats more!!!

Today’s sandwich was made using the good old cutter.  Does it look like there are 2 slices of bread in the box?  Minus some in between, probably for each slice, 90% of the bread was here.  It’s really a lot more than what she will eat if it’s just 2 simple slices, where she will merely eat 1 😦

Tips : If your children do not eat much bread or slow eater, you can use breadcutter and press it.  They become bite and manageable sizes for little mouth.  BUT, I suggest use moist fillings, else bread may be too dry.

Pineapple Fried Rice Bento

What happen when you planned to make fried rice only to realise in the morning that you have forgotten to cook the rice!!!!  😦

Thank God I woke up early enough to be able to quickly cook the rice, cooled it down quickly using fan, and still managed.  Pheeewwwww…

So, actually this picture is deceiving.  The fried rice was actually not done and not inside the thermal food jar :P.  I got everything ready, including the photo, while waiting for the rice to be cooked 😛

Oh, for treat, I put the peanut cake in.  Mum in law bought from China, and it’s really sooooo yummy.  It was freshly made there.  Never tasted any this good.
